Searching Twitter

How to search Twitter in MusterPoint

  • In your social dashboard click on the three white dots in the top left of your dashboard
  • Click on 'add stream'
  • Click on 'search tweets' then type in your search conditions
  • Ensure you first click on 'test stream'
  • You will now see a number of results. If there are too many results, you can adjust your search conditions to reduce the number - click on 'test stream' again to reduce the search results
  • Click on 'add stream' to add this to your dashboard
  • Please be patient - sometimes it can take a few minutes to show your search results in the dashboard

Using Boolean search logic to improve your searches

You can use a number of operators or terms to make your search more efficient or useful. The more specific you are, the more likely you are going to be able to find more relevant results. These are;

OperatorFinds Tweets...
watching nowcontaining both “watching” and “now”. This is the default operator.
“happy hour”containing the exact phrase “happy hour”.
love OR hatecontaining either “love” or “hate” (or both).
social -mediacontaining “social” but not “media”.
#haikucontaining the hashtag “haiku”.
from:muster_pointsent from Twitter account “muster_point”.
list:NASA/astronauts-in-space-nowsent from a Twitter account in the NASA list astronauts-in-space-now
to:muster_pointa Tweet authored in reply to Twitter account “muster_point”.
@muster_pointmentioning Twitter account “NASA”.
puppy url:amazoncontaining “puppy” and a URL with the word “amazon” anywhere within it.
movie -scary :)containing “movie”, but not “scary”, and with a positive attitude.
flight :(containing “flight” and with a negative attitude.
